Reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), and based out of Charlottetown, PE, Dosecann is looking to hire a Director, Product Development to join our Commercial team. In addition to Product Development, the Commercial team is responsible for Marketing, Sales, Insights, and Creative across the Auxly family of companies.

The Director, Product Development will provide hands-on leadership in the development and management of all products developed in-house or under license at Dosecann. This includes concept and process development, product prototyping, generating new product specifications, regulatory compliance, intellectual property development, product claim development, and food safety requirements. Cannabis products in scope include those in the topical class (creams), extract class (including vapes, concentrates, tinctures, tablets, and capsules) and edible class (chocolates, chews, and hard candy).

The successful candidate would be expected to lead a team of Formulators, Technology Transfer Specialists, Sensory Experts and Scientists who are equipped with a state-of-the-art formulation laboratory and kitchen with support from Auxly as the parent company, Dosecann’s Analytical Services laboratory, and other third-party vendors and partners. 

• Embody Auxly and Dosecann LD Inc.’s mission, and strategy, and act in a responsible, ethical, and honest manner while consistently leading by example.
• Lead and mentor the Product development team at Dosecann.
• Develop new cannabis topicals, extract class (including vapes, concentrates, tinctures, tablets, and capsules) and edibles (including chocolates, gummies, and lozenges) from concept through to commercialization.
• Build business cases with supporting risk profile assessments for new product concepts.
• Become a leader within the Auxly Commercial team supporting Product Innovation and Development.
• Interface with all key departments of Dosecann and Auxly (i.e., Analytical Services, QA, QC, Engineering and Commercial (Creative, insights, Marketing Sales)) across all product categories.
• Organize and conduct formal sensory assessments on infused and non-infused products, gather and analyse feedback, and adjust the product formulation where necessary.
• Responsible for establishing product development plans and overseeing all related activities to ensure the adherence to project budgets, deadlines, and milestones.
• Responsible for the identification and sourcing of large and small-scale equipment to meet production requirements as related to products development at Dosecann.
• Collaborate with ingredient suppliers, equipment suppliers, and other vendors to source solutions for new product innovation and development.
• Validate formulations and processes at the bench and pilot scale before to support seamless commercial scale production.
• Assist in scale-up and pilot trials for products developed in-house or under license.
• Leverage expertise to suggest improvements to cost of goods, product design and manufacturing, sustainability, and ROI.
• Responsible for the technical evaluation and assessment of new technologies, processes, and platforms of interest to Dosecann and parent company, Auxly.
• It is expected that travel will be a requirement, from time to time, in the fulfillment of these duties.
• Contribute to the qualification of equipment and writing of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and other documentation supporting product commercialization.
• Plan, perform, and interpret results of experiments, ensure data quality and complete report summaries.
• Communicate progress of projects to peers and other mangers in the form of presentations and reports.
• Lead by example by abiding by the Dosecann QMS system to ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory guidelines (e.g., SOP’s, GMP, HSE).
• Perform additional related duties as assigned and as operationally required

• Graduate degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or equivalent, with 5-10 years’ experience with product innovation and development.
• Demonstrated success in launching new products from ideation, prototyping, testing and scaleup to commercial manufacturing and launch.
• Significant work experience developing cannabis products.
• Excel at working within a manufacturing/processing environment.
• People leadership skills to build, lead, train, mentor, and retain team members.
• Experience planning the Product Development team’s innovation output including execution and completion of technical reports, business cases, and regulatory filings and correspondence.
• Demonstrated adherence to project budget, deadlines, and milestones.
• Continuous Improvement mindset: ability to foresee problems and proactively and collaboratively seek solutions.
• Must have aptitude and analytical abilities as applicable to preparing formulations such as topicals, tinctures, vapes, capsules/tablets, and edibles.

• Significant experience in a GPP/GMP environment developing new products (Cannabis, Natural Health Products, Food/Bev, or Pharmaceuticals).
• Understanding of pharmaceutical and food formulation science, equipment, and processes.
• Experience with New product ideation and development and supporting product claims; Product risk profile assessment and support; Intellectual Property development and management; Product stability testing; and People/Talent management within a Product Development group.
• Knowledge of animal models and human clinical studies that can support product claims and regulatory filings.
• Significant experience working with internal and external clients in a courteous and effective manner.
